Central Market KL

As mentioned before I met Victor C. P. Tan first in Penang. His shop in Chulia Road was called 'Pen Antique' and I first thought, it would be a pen shop. I collected fountain pens in that time and was happy to find quickly an appropriate shop. The P. in Victor's name means Pen, therefore 'Pen Antique'.

Very soon I found out the real kind of the shop and very fast Victor and I became friends. I spent a lot of my leisure time in his shop and I learned a lot from him.

Victor's shop in Chulia Road, Penang. The photo is from March 2002 and the bicycle is mine, a Malaysian 'Rolex'.
Victor is a keen musician too.

Victor's new shop in the Central Market.

The Central Market, built in 1888 by the British, has got many expansions since that time and should have been demolished in the 1970s. The intervention of the Malaysian Heritage Society proved timely as they successfully petitioned against its deconstruction and the site was declared as a 'Heritage Site'. Now the two-storey Central Market is surrounded by many small shops and has since 2006 an Annexe, which houses art galleries, theatre and music performance spaces.

Outside shops along the Central Market.

One of the many restaurants in the Central Market, great Baba Nonja food.

Little walk around the Central Market KL

The Central Market in the City Center of Kuala Lumpur exists since 1888 and became a top spot for tourists since the 1970s. There are many arts and craft shops, antique stores and restaurants. 2001/02 I discovered it and was inspired by all of that colorful Chinese, Indian and Malyasian clothing and rare antiques. My friend Victor Tan, whom I met first in his Penang antique store 'Pen Antique', moved some years ago to KL.

So I wanted to visit him and his new shop and investigated first some of the fascinating surroundings of the Central Market.

The Central Market.
Durian Kafe - can't even stand the smell.

Small China Town, opulent decorated for Chinese New Year.

Very tasty omelets with peanut filling.

Shadowy pavilions with inside springs at Merdeka Square, a benefit on hot days like that.

The impressive Sultan Abdul Samad Building houses several government departments.

The National Textile Museum.

Fish Eye Day in Kuala Lumpur City Center

A four day trip brought me yesterday evening to Kuala Lumpur, capital of my second homeland Malaysia. Much warmer here as in cold Seoul and a good opportunity to refresh my memory and meet friends. First day I only took only my Canon EF 8-15mm 1:4 L USM with me and made a Fish Eye Day in KL City Center.

View from my hotel room, 18th floor of Renaissance KL Hotel, the same Hotel, where I lived 2001/02 during my job here in Malaysia and 2004 with Jenny.

Entrance Hall of the Renaissance KL, west wing.
Remains of a formerly for sure wonderful villa, very near the Renaissance, the area around is used as parking space.

One of the mighty trees on the villa estate.

The big green unfinished hotel building was a left construction site even in 2001.

In one of the buildings on the other side of the road was our Entrutech office from 2000 to at least 2004
Hard Rock Cafe KL, nearly opposite our Entrutech office. I was the first visitor on this afternoon.
